I don't really have any deep and brooding meaning for why I painted this. It was just a mixture of things I commonly like to draw and paint that ended up on the same piece of paper. It worked out well, however. 25"-17" Graphite, charcoal, black pencil crayon and acrylic paint. Ten hours.
EDIT: The beautiful woman in the reference I used by some magnificent feat found this piece and she left the most lovely comment on it, It's only right that I give her credit on her wondrous face and beautiful photography skills.
EDIT: A few months back I entered this piece into a scholarship competition to possibly win tuition for my first year studies at ACAD. I entered this piece and another you can find in my gallery entitled 'Delicate'. This particular piece was chosen to be a part of the gallery, out of a little over a hundred pieces submitted, seventy five contestants made it through. Some grade eleven, which are competing for a summer program and then my category which was grade twelve students competing for tuition.
April 14th was the award day. I went not expecting much since I didn't think I would win. The grade eleven prizes were announced first and then my category. The first name that was called was my friend which was so amazing since we are from the same school. Then it was MY name. This piece won me tuition completely paid for by the school. Needless to say I was a blithering mess of happy tears. It really is a testament to how much I really am meant to go to that school, that my art will take me places, it already has.
And also, because of my win the same amount of money for my tuition gets matched and sent to the art program at my highschool where my teacher, Barth, can buy all kinds of new art materials for future students. NOT ONLY THAT, but since Iara won too and she goes to the same school as me, he gets even more money! Nine grand in art materials all together!
The whole thing is really surreal and just so wonderful and to not have to worry about tuition because of simply being talented is too amazing for words. Thank you for all the support, you guys, on this piece especially.
Ahahahah! I knew I'd seen this before. I saw your lovely work at the Gallery- it was truly my favorite piece. Congratulations in your success, you deserve it. May you be prosperous in your studies. Unfortunatley, I cannot attend the school this year, because I can't afford it (yet) I was hoping for the tuition myself but I got a long way to go I guess, haha.
Amazing! I love how I faved it forever ago, then saw it in the same gallery as my work! Neat!
This is the coolest thing ever! Which gallery did you see it in? I know it's in the Calgary Board of Education right now. I'm going tomorrow for the closing ceremonies. And it was your favourite? That warms my heart so much I could melt. Thank you!Thank you! Thank you! That's a real bummer, but I just looked at your work and it's so beautiful, really fine and detailed, you will have no problems at all getting in. I hope to see you as a fellow student at some point! Thank you again, this was so sweet, it made my night. <3
I love the freckles (if that's what they are) and how they kind of blend into the shadows, as well as how the white of the birds blends into the hair when you look at a thumbnail of it. Fantastic!
